Painting technology

Vehicle paintwork continues to be an important selling factor and has high potential for innovation.

Enormous damands are made to the quality of the coating "vehicle paint". This concerns not only the "appearance" of the paint, but also to a particular degree the functionality of the bodywork coating, such as the corrosion protection or resistance to media. Therefore, the painting process is very costly. In addition, paintshop facilities use more energy than any other part of the vehicle factory.

INPRO faces the challenge of reducing production costs in paintshop facilities while at the same time responding to increasing requirements in the quality of vehicle coating at the same time.

In order to meet these challenges, INPRO has specialized in the following fields:

  • paint application and measurement
  • colour measurement
  • topography and data analysis
  • flow simulations for painting processes

INPRO’s current priority developments are:

  • energy-saving paintshop facilities: we have realized potential savings using trendsetting technologies.
  • objective assessment of paint appearance: by using innovative measurement systems, we have made it possible to control paint processes to ensure high quality.

The following surface analyses equipment is available in the INPRO testing area, including:

  • white light interferometer
  • gas chromatograph with mass spectrometer
  • calorimeter (DSC)
  • standard measurement device for measurement of the quality of painted surfaces
