Plasma technology

Surfaces and their qualities play an increasing role in vehicle construction.

Often, the use of appropriate material becomes only possible through custom modifications of its to surfaces. The increasing use of polymer materials in conjunction with other materials makes mastery of the appropriate techniques an important topic.

INPRO has extensive expertise in the field of surface treatment using plasma technology and has specialised in the following fields:

  • activating and cleaning of surfaces
  • removing coats and coating systems
  • coating of component surfaces and cavities
    • permeation-resistant
    • scratch-resistant
    • electrically conductive
    • dirt and water-repellent
    • media and temperature-resistant

Examples of use include the application of electrically conductive layers as preparation for electrostatic painting of vehicle body panels, scratch-resistant coatings on polymeric glazing and inner cavity coatings as a barrier for plastic fuel, transport and storage containers.

In INPRO testing facility plasma systems are available with corresponding analytics:

  • low-pressure plasma facilities with microwave stimulation
  • robot-controlled atmospheric pressure plasma equipment
  • calorimeter (DSC) and emissions mesurement (GC-MS, fogging)
  • special test bench for the determination of fuel permeation through plastic (cup method, n-pentane test)
  • steam spraying equipment and contact angle measurement
  • vibration table for long-term scratch-resistance testing
  • corrosion/aging/rockfall tests
