The next generation of reverse engineering

We continuously work on several innovation projects in parallel for our shareholder Siemens – often over many years. In the area of virtual product development and reverse engineering, the inpro solution Mesh2CAD was integrated into the market-leading simulation software Simcenter STAR-CCM+.

The challenge

For flow analysis in the context of product development, a precise representation of the surface is required in order to avoid numerical calculation errors and the resulting incorrect predictions.

The implementation

Based on integrated near-contour remeshing, surface geometries can be approximated smoothly and precisely using the reverse engineering tool. A specially developed algorithm supports the data transfer to CAD.

The result

Every user of the STAR-CCM+ software is now able to convert triangulated surfaces into a CAD format for their own flow analyses. This represents a significant gain in flexibility and opens up new forms of analysis and product improvement.
