inpro and its development partner NanoFocus have jointly created a new measuring and evaluation system, which is particularly suitable for analysing the appearance of painted surfaces. This is the first system that allows surface structures to be examined before, during and after a multi-stage coating process.
The appearance of a coated surface is dependent on texturing, CED coat, filler, basecoat, and clear coat. Previously there was no integrated system to detect the influence of the individual layers or surfaces on the resulting surface structure. Particularly in process variants with fewer coating layers, or with reduced total coat thickness, it was unclear whether and how the sheet manufacturing process and the texturing would affect the appearance.
The newly developed, integrated metrology enables surface analysis and control after each processing step. Thus, it becomes possible to track the emergence of the final appearance. The new system allows all colours and automotive-related surface structures to be measured. The evaluation system will be distributed under license by NanoFocus.

„Together, we have developed a highly innovative measuring system for continuous surface analysis of painted automobile bodies. Thanks to the cooperation with the reliable partner inpro, this opens up yet another application area for confocal microscopy for NanoFocus.“
