inpro tested the new Catena-X data exchange format for products and components in the supply chain and imported delivery data via the Catena-X OSim Manager into Siemens Plant Simulation. A simplified production model of the assembly line – including production volume, production sequence, vehicle configurations, and scheduling – was linked with real delivery data. This made it possible to simulate the effects of delivery issues and analyze potential response strategies.

The data available via Catena-X enables more precise scenario analyses along the supply chain and therefore provides an important lever for optimizing the supply chain. For example, delivery sequences and parts deliveries can be adjusted, alternative suppliers can be integrated, safety stocks and buffer storage can be increased, or the assembly sequence can be optimized. However, this requires a continuously maintained and up-to-date simulation model as well as adapted workflows on the shop floor so that analysis results can be effectively translated into operational process adjustments. In the long term, this approach opens the perspective of a connected simulation across the entire supply chain in Siemens Plant Simulation.
